ADHD & ASD Screening vs Assessment in Australia
Understanding the difference between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) screening and a full assessment is an important first step in seeking support. While both processes explore symptoms of ADHD and ASD, they serve different purposes.
A screening is a brief, initial step designed to identify whether further assessment may be beneficial. It provides an indication of potential traits but does not result in a formal diagnosis.
A full assessment, on the other hand, is a comprehensive process conducted by a qualified clinician. It involves a detailed evaluation and is required to determine a formal diagnosis and guide appropriate support and recommendations.
If your psychologist identifies traits of both ADHD and ASD, they may recommend completing an AuDHD assessment. This is a combined assessment that evaluates both conditions within a single, comprehensive process.

Not Sure Where to Start?
If you’re unsure whether you require a screening or a full assessment, starting with a screening can be a helpful and cost-effective first step. From there, we can guide you through the next stages of care. If you would like more information about assessments, please refer to our Assessments page on the website.
Please note that if you complete a screening at Pam Saunders-Ward & Associates and choose to proceed with a full assessment, the cost of the screening will be deducted from the total assessment fee.
It is also important to note that psychologists in Australia are unable to prescribe medication, and a screening does not provide a formal diagnosis.
